Neelam or Blue Sapphire
is the blue color variety of the mineral family Corumdum. According to Indian Vedic Astrology, blue is the color emitted by the planet Saturn (Shani). Hence, Blue Sapphire is associated with planet Saturn (Shani). It is generally worn to reduce or remove the malefic effects of Shani (Saturn) in a person's planetary position or horoscope.
Before you wear a Blue Sapphire, it is always recommended that you consult with a learned and qualified astrologer and get your horoscope analyzed by him/her.
According to the Vedic astrology, Saturn is the lord of signs Capricorn and Aquarius. Hence, people born in these signs can wear Blue Sapphire (Neelam) gemstone. People wearing Blue Sapphire stone are advised not to wear Ruby, Red Coral or Pearl gemstones with it. In exceptional cases where you are recommended to wear any of these gemstone also, wear it either on different hand or as a pendant on your neck.
